Princess Esmeralda
Princess Esme is the current ruler of Albanlea. She is an 8 year old grey cat. Her life is a bit of a Cinderella story. at the age of about 4 months, she was abandoned along with the rest of her litter in the night drop off box of a humane society shelter.
from there she was adopted by a young couple who saw that she was the smallest and shyest of the litter. She never made a sound while in the shelter, sitting timidly in the far back of the cage. they felt an urge to protect the tiny grimalkin.
that shyness did not last long, however. as soon as Esme realized she was the only cat in the household, she knew she was in charge. in no time, Esme became known for her take charge attitude and her willingness to offer an opinion on every subject under the sun. Esme cultivated a relationship with the Grand Chancellor of Albanlea. when a the position of ruler (or powerless figurehead) opened up, she was presented to the people as the perfect choice. she has been beloved by all ever since.
Albanlea is now ruled by Her Majesty Princess Esme. That the Princess is actually a Cat works very well for the inhabitants as they believe they are descended from Pandora and hold curiosity as the highest of virtues. In the political realm of Albanlea, the princess actually holds only the status of a figure head, with all real governing going through the Grand Chancellor , who “speaks for the Princess”

This is the “Royal Portrait”. A wallet sized copy is issued to each governmental worker and to school children. Most homes in the country have a larger sized copy displayed somewhere. When someone enters military or governmental service, they seal their loyalty by kissing a copy of this portrait. This image also features on a postage stamp which is the basic general purpose stamp of Albanlea.

Local artists have used the Princess's image in their art on many occasions. These to portraits were carved by one artist as a gift for Her Magesty out of soft rubber block. They are now used as stamps on many official governmental correspondance and paperwork.
